… is definitely not on fire.
It’s been a while since we’ve posted an update, and it seems like it’s been a while since anything with our home has been done. That’s not the reality, at all. We’re just impatient, living in a crappy Invitation Homes rental house and really want to get into our new home.
We’ve had a few slowdowns. A neighbor friend alerted us to some mold on the wood being used for the framing. This is apparently a normal thing and is called lumber yard mold. We alerted our Starkey Ranch Real Estate Agent Annie Rocks of The Rocks Team, and she told us they experienced the exact same thing with their build and that it’s easily remedied. She reached out to our Homes by West Bay Construction Manager, Steven Blevins, who quickly responded and took care of the issue.
The other big slow down surrounded a broken sewer line. Unfortunately, it was under the slab in our garage, and so they had to tear up some of the foundation in the garage to get to it and repair it. That seems to have pushed us back another week or two, but Steven has been keeping on top of it and making sure we’re in the loop. I guess for Homes by West Bay, lucky for them, we had already paid for the upgraded acrylic garage floor, so it will end up getting hidden under that. I wonder what they would have done had we not paid for that upgrade? Hmmmm.
Aside from that, here’s what’s happened in the past month or so.
- Electrical rough-in completed.
- HVAC rough-in completed.
- Low voltage rough-in completed.
- In-wall pest control system install completed.
- Termite treatment of interior and exterior completed.
- Roofing tiles and installation stuff delivered.
- Windows delivered and installed.
- Sliding glass doors delivered and installed.
- Fire block/sealant installed around the property.
- All of the non-filled cells were filled with expanding foam.
- Exterior doors installed.
- Drywall delivered and awaiting install.
Wait, was I seriously griping that it didn’t seem like anything was getting done? Ugh. I hope our awesome construction manager, Steven, doesn’t find this site. Ha!
Did I mention the roofing tiles were delivered? We couldn’t believe the number of tiles and installation material needed for our new home. Check out these pictures!
Don’t adjust your monitor. They are leaning a bit! If you’re interested, there’s a picture below of the roofing information so you can see which one we picked out and how heavy these freaking things are!
We have our pre-drywall inspection this coming Wednesday at noon. We also have a 9 a.m. inspection with our own privately contracted inspection company, Waypoint Property Inspection. I can’t recommend them enough, but more importantly, I can’t recommend it enough that you have your own inspection company working for you. Homes by West Bay have been great, but at the end of the day, I want a third party coming in and verifying that everything is as great as it looks.
Not many but a few more pictures to share below. It’s getting there.
Your right, it seems it’s been forever…but when u listed everything I guess thats a normal pace. Anyway, hang in there. Hugs to u all of you!🤗❤️
I love this blog! Great job sharing so many of the steps involved in building your dream home. I’m thrilled for you!
How has your roof been? We are looking to replace our current tile roof with an Eagle tile roof as well. Curious how it has held up over the last couple years. And do you know which company installed it?
Thanks!
