We are all set to close on Tuesday, February 4th, 2020 on our new Homes by WestBay Key West II in Anclote Reserve at Starkey Ranch. Well, I think we’re all set. My confidence is waning, ever so slightly.
As you get close to your closing date, you will have what’s referred to as the “blue tape” inspection. This is the inspection where you walk through your new home with your Homes by WestBay Construction Manager and identify any issues with the home. I think they said to expect to spend about 2 hours on this visit, but we spent over 3 hours going through the house. Granted, it is a pretty large house. I’ve seen a few other homes that were at this point and always laughed at the little slices of blue tape, peppered all over the place. Not so funny when it’s your home.
This might be a good time to mention the team we have with us. Our trusted Starkey Ranch Real Estate Agent, Annie and Kevin Rocks of The Rocks Team were onsite, guiding us through the process. We also engaged our own third party inspection company, Waypoint Property Inspections to give us their professional overview of the build. It’s important that you have your trusted advisers by your side, throughout the entire process.
Most of the issues are minor. There are a small number of issues that are more critical and must get addressed. Our Homes by WestBay Construction Manager, Steven Blevins, has really been on top of this build and has nervously assured us that he can get all of our issues addressed before we close. Their goal is 100% satisfaction and resolution, before closing. In fairness, some of the issues that need to be addressed are pretty large in scope and we weren’t able to accommodate his request to change our closing date, due to the upcoming birth of our 2nd child. Steven has 7 days to get it done and I feel like he’ll deliver. He always has.
Our final inspection is on Monday, February 3rd. We will review the 3 page punch list he created and also walk the home again to make sure all of the blue and green tape items were resolved.
